Multi-user Subscriptions, Bulk Subscriptions And Site Licences

GIS For Biologists is primarily set up to provide GIS training to individuals. However, we can also provide access to our exercises to multiple users from the same, or connected organisations, at a discounted rate. There are two options for doing this. The first is through bulk subscriptions and the second is through a site licence.

The difference between these two options is related to how the subscriptions are validated. For a bulk subscription, instead of being provided with a single password (as you would for an individual subscription), you will receive a block of passwords that you can then distribute to the other users in your organisation as you see fit. For a site licence, the subscription is validated by the IP address of the user, and it means that anyone using an IP address covered by the licence can access the relevant videos. As a result, a site licence is effectively an institutional licence that can only be accessed from specific locations/computers, and they are aimed at institutions, such as universities, businesses, governmental organisations, charities and NGOs, who wish to make our training materials available to a large number of people without the need to deal with distributing lists of passwords.

The rates for these multi-user subscriptions can be found below, and you can arrange them by visiting our contact us page and sending us a message outlining the type of subscription you are looking for, and the intended number of users.

Bulk Subscription Rates:

Our discounted bulk subscription rates for the online videos for our courses and exercises are as follows:

  • Two to four users: 10% discount on an individual subscriptions.
  • Five to nine users: 15% discount on individual subscriptions.
  • Ten to fourteen users: 20% discount on individual subscriptions.
  • Fifteen or more users: 25% discount on individual subscriptions.

Bulk subscription rates are only provided to subscriptions purchased during a single transaction and will run concurrently. That is, they will all start and end on the same date. However, you can request a specific start date for your subscription. No refunds will be given for unused subscriptions/passwords from a bulk subscription order, so please make sure that you do not order too many.

We also offer the same bulk discount rates on the purchase of the associated book which has the written instructions for our GIS exercises. Postage is included free for orders delivered to addresses in the UK and the US, but postage charges may apply to deliveries to other destinations. In addition, you may have to pay customs/import fees when the package arrives in your country.

Payments for bulk subscriptions/book orders can be made through Paypal, with a credit or debit card, by bank transfer or by invoicing your institution. Your block of passwords will be delivered by email as soon as we have processed your payment, and any books will be delivered by mail or courier shortly afterwards.

To place a bulk subscription order, visit our contact page, and on the contact form, use the subject Bulk Subscription Enquiry. On the form itself, please provide the following information:

Site Licences:

Site licences are primarily aimed at organisations, such as universities, businesses, governmental organisations, charities and NGOs, who wish to allow multiple users to be able to access our training materials without having to distribute passwords or specify exactly who can access them. In particular, site licences are well-suited to educational institution who wish to use our training materials as part of their on courses or as additional resources for their students.

Site licences are verified by IP address, and as a result, you would need to be able to provide us with a list of IP addresses where you wish our materials to be accessed from. Once we have these IP addresses, we will set up a dedicated web portal where your users can access our materials from these locations. New IP addresses can be added to your site licence at a later date if you find you have missed any out, although we may need to charge an administration fee if there are substantial changes to the IP address list after it is initially set up.

Each site licence is valid for one year from the date of purchase, and the cost of site licences are based on the estimated number of users. As a result, we reserved the right to temporarily block site licences if we find that they are being used by substantially more users than was originally estimated until we receive additional payment to cover this increased usage. This is because we have to pay for or bandwidth and streaming on a per user basis. In addition, due to the cost of setting up a site licence, we do not recommend them for organisations with under twenty users. To discuss the purchase of a site licence, visit our contact us page and fill out the contact form with the subject Site Licence Enquiry. On the form itself, please provide the following information:

  • Your name and email address.
  • The name of your organisation or group.
  • The country in which you are based.
  • Exactly what you wish to obtain a site licence for (e.g. an individual exercise or a whole course)
  • The estimated number of people who will be using your site licence.
  • The date you wish your site licence to start.
  • Whether you also wish to purchase any copies of the book which accompanies our course/exercises and the address you would need these delivered to (you may decide that uses will need to purchase this themselves, rather than have you provide them yourself).

Once we receive this information, we will get in touch to with a quote for how much it will cost to set up. At that stage you can then decide whether you wish to go ahead with it.
